making progress

I can't show any pictures for a bit. I'm making a gift (Daffy cat - you know what it is), but I don't want the recipient to see it! I will say this - I don't know how any of you work over 1! Do you have eyes like eagles? I'm struggling along! I work on it near a window. My magnifying glass that hangs around my neck makes me nuts (well, more nuts!) so I'm bumbling along. I'm surprised it is looking as nice as it is!

I don't know how it is that some people can return anything and the store will take it back, and I have had no luck lately! I was at Michaels and the woman in front of me was returning a bottle of gold leaf that was in an opened bubble pack on cardboard. She had it taped with BLUE masking tape (3 pieces!) and no receipt. The clerk starts ringing up the return (no questions asked). The woman didn't have a receipt and told the clerk - I used a coupon. The clerk says "when you return without a receipt, we take 20% off so I think you'll make out better." Duh! They are paying the woman money who is returning an unsaleable item money! Now fast forward to me at Joann's. I try to return a skein of yarn with a receipt and the woman looks aghast at me and says "We can't take this back!! It's too old!!" (meaning it was past 90 days.) Incredible! I won't even go into what I think the job requirements are to work there, but I will say I think one of them is "must be crabby". Enough said.

I hope you are all having a lovely week! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hugs and stitches!

I just had to comment on this one!

I work customer service (returns) at a very large retail chain. We take back anything and everything! We take back stuff even without a receipt that is 2-3 years old! It's amazing that even the most innocent looking woman (sometimes with child in tow) will say that a garment was not worn when it is so most obviously used! All we want to know is if we can resell it. You should see the stuff we have to throw away every day because we cannot give it to charity.

I also worked at Joann's for a very short time. What you described is so like them as a company. Need I say cheap? You need to ask for a manager. I hate going there but we have few options for fabric without going out of town.

LOL about the Joann's comment. I agree! The one near where we used to live was terrible, full of grumpy people. Customer service over here is terrible, though; it's a popular rant of mine.

Good luck with the over one. I hate, loathe, abhor over one. I do it unwillingly if I love a design that has it in it, but would never do an entire project over one. Beautiful when finished but I just don't care for it. Hope it goes quick for you! ;)

I quite agree with you that Joann's is not a friendly store.
I am stitching over one now, like its look very much and enjoy doing it.
Happy stitching and good luck on your project!

Joann stores must be the same every where. They are unfriendly and trashy in our area. I have heard men ask for something and they tell them it is on the back wall instead of helping them find it. You know men usually need all the help they can get.

Have you tried getting a pair of reading glasses from Walgreens or Wal-Mart. Just take your stitching in and try various strengths of glasses. I use them when I am not at home by my Daylight magnifier.
